In an anticipated announcement today, Luxor President Felix Rappaport confirmed less than an hour ago what LUXE LIFE first reported earlier this year: TV star and famed illusionist Criss Angel will be starring in a Cirque du Soleil production slated to launch at the Luxor in a little more than a year during summer 2008.
All secrets were revealed as to the subject of this newest Cirque du Soleil show announcement today as casino execs and media entered the Luxor Theater today for the special announcement. The backdrop had logos for the Luxor, Cirque du Soleil and Criss Angel's trademark Circle A, reminiscent of an anarchy symbol. This will be the sixth resident show in Vegas joining Mystere, O, Zumanity, Ka and LOVE with an Elvis-based show opening at MGM Mirage's City Center when that is completed before the decade's end.
Cirque du Soleil CEO and President Daniel Lamarre said that Cirque du Soleil has been 'dreaming for many, many years to get involved in a magic show." He even revealed that the his company has invested millions of dollars in R&D alone for a magic show looking for new opportunities.
Gilles Ste-Croix, Cirque's head of creativity LUXE LIFE readers will remember from our unparalleled coverage of the opening of Cirque du Soleil's last show, 'The Beatles LOVE,' introduced the director of the show, Serge Denoncourt, as well as Criss. He said the drive to do a magic-based show began for him when he first saw Siegfried and Roy during a trip to Vegas in 1989.
"Over the last few years, we had the mandate to look all over the world to see where magic was today and what we could possibly do and in this search we found Criss Angel," Gilles added. "We thought we have the opportunity here to do something special."
Criss gave a typically emotional speech thanking his family and father and his army of fans, the Loyal.
